You can cancel at any time within the first 30 days of your contract, and you’ll receive a full refund on any money you paid. If you claimed a free domain name when you signed up with HostMonster, the cost will be deducted from your refund.
If you cancel after this initial 30-day period, you will receive a partial refund. HostMonster promises not to penalize you for canceling your service, although you will be charged for any ‘free’ domain names that you claimed when you initially signed up.
Is HostMonster an established company?
HostMonster has been in the hosting business since 1995, so it’s well established and unlikely to disappear. It was acquired by the Endurance International Group in 2011.
What is the Endurance International Group?/h4>
The Endurance International Group, or EIG, is a large hosting group headquartered in Burlington, MA in the United States. It owns dozens of well-known hosting brands and has 2,600 employees.
EIG owns data centers across the US with different specializations. A majority offer low-cost shared hosting as their primary source of business.
Which operating systems are offered at HostMonster?
HostMonster only provides hosting on Linux. It uses CentOS. All plans support PHP 5, MySQL, Perl 5, Python, Ruby on Rails, Real Audio, and streaming media.
VPS hosting is provisioned using OpenStack and KVM on HostMonster’s cloud server infrastructure. VPS and dedicated plans include root server access.
Does HostMonster back up client accounts?
Yes, although you need to check its terms carefully. HostMonster takes “courtesy” backups of client accounts every week. However, you must be aware of the limitations of this service.
The free backups it stores are not guaranteed, and should not be relied upon for file retrieval if you accidentally delete something. These backups are primarily designed to cover HostMonster in case of a hardware failure. Additionally, HostMonster does not back up any account with more than 30 GB of data, so many customers will not benefit.
To protect your files, it’s best to set up your own backup regimen, using the features provided within your cPanel control panel.
HostMonster does mention an additional service called Site Backup Pro, which costs extra. Contact the Sales department for more information.
How do I get support?
HostMonster offers a range of different support tools and contact methods.
You can create a ticket on its website, call the support team via a toll-free US number, or open a live chat conversation on the HostMonster website.
Many questions are answered on its knowledge base, and in video tutorials.
