Termly is trusted by more than one million businesses, and it collects over 400 million consents every month.
It’s made for generating detailed privacy policies for established websites and applications, offering some of its services for free.
Termly provides some of the best quality privacy policies in the market. The dashboard was a one-stop shop for all the privacy policies I might need for my website. All I had to do was navigate through a multi-step questionnaire as Termly asked necessary questions with comprehensive explanations to generate my privacy policy.
Whether you use a content management system like WordPress, manage your website yourself, or use a professional service, everything is easy to set up. For Pro+, you can simply add your URL on your Dashboard, and it’s guaranteed that your privacy policy is embedded in your website.
Termly supports 13 languages. You will also have your website scanned free of charge to highlight potential pain points, if any. Termly’s legal policies are vetted and comply with regulations including the GDPR, CCPA, CalOPPA, and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
It’s worth noting that your site traffic will impact the plan you select. For example, the Starter package supports 100,000 consent banners each month, which is fine for most sites.
But if you’re getting more than 100,000 visitors to your website on a monthly basis, you’ll need to upgrade to Pro+ for unlimited views.
- Who is Termly best for?
The tiered pricing scale makes Termly a flexible choice for all types of businesses. From website owners to bigger-scale agencies, Termly offers plans to provide a comprehensive compliance solution for their clients or themselves. You can manage and customize your privacy policy for each vertical using a state-of-the-art centralized dashboard. - Recent upgrades to Termly
The Google Tag Manager (GTM) template gallery now includes the Termly Consent Mode template. If you use GTM, you can install Termly and simplify the consent management procedure with the aid of this template.
Google consent mode is a technology that enables websites to abide by these laws while still collecting high-level, anonymous metrics. If you reject cookies, your analytics and advertising data will not be collected. Websites can securely collect visitor metrics while adhering to cookie and consent preference laws using Termly’s consent mode template.
One of the global leaders in AI web accessibility, accessibe, has announced a joint partnership with Termly. This collaboration exemplifies how compliance and accessibility work together to create a more open and inclusive web.
As of January 2024, all of Termly’s products will support IAB TCF 2.2. - Termly pricing
On the free plan, you’ll get one GDPR compliant privacy policy with a cookie banner. You’re limited to HTML embedding and your policy will have Termly branding. You can upgrade for $10 per website per month for two policies, branding-free embedding, regulation monitoring, regular policy updates, legal support, and up to 10 policy edits. Other paid plans include Pro for $15 per website per month and a custom agency plan.

Reasons to choose PrivacyPolicies
- Highly customizable
- No-nonsense, jargon-free
- Supports clauses for Microsoft Ads, AdButler, Piwik, StatCounter, and Clicky in the free plan
Reasons to avoid
- Free plan misses some features
- Limited customer support
PrivacyPolicies is an online legal document generator for websites, mobile and software as a service (SaaS) apps, and e-commerce storefronts. While it looks and works on the same principles as TermsFeed, the platform does not use standardized, one-size-fits-all templates to generate your website’s privacy policy.
PrivacyPolicies makes customized policies based on your industry, use of technology, and purpose of data collection. So any paid privacy policy you generate on the platform will be unique to the needs of your business. I added my clauses to the doc.
Most clauses are written in simple language that anyone can understand — a big plus for your users, who might find all that legalese confusing. But the problem is that you can only edit or update the policy with a paid plan. In addition, the user interface looks deceptively simple but is not as responsive as it appears.
When I tried generating a privacy policy for my website, I faced multiple snags. Every time I attempted to update the policy, the page jumped back to the home page. Even though PrivacyPolicies looks deceptively similar to TermsFeed, the platform lacks the former’s intuitiveness.
But I have to give it to the platform for supporting 12 languages, including English.
- Who is PrivacyPolicies best for?
Individuals who want an automated but customizable privacy policy sans frills and legal speak can opt for PrivacyPolicies. - Recent upgrades to PrivacyPolicies
PrivacyPolicies provides automatic updates for all its policies. - PrivacyPolicies pricing
You can choose between a free and a premium one-time fee for your privacy policy. However, the free option is limiting: you cannot download your privacy policy (.doc, HTML, or plain text). It is also not GDPR compliant. I recommend the premium plan.
What Customers Are Saying About PrivacyPolicies
Generating privacy policies on the platform is simple and fast — something most users appreciate. But its unresponsive customer support remains a major problem. In addition, customers also face trouble navigating the platform’s backend, which often freezes or jumps to unrelated pages.

GetTerms is one of the few generators that allowed me to create my policy pack without signing up for an account. I filled in a detailed questionnaire, including answering questions about where and how I planned to use consumer data. The result was an exhaustive policy tailor-made to suit my business needs.
What I love about GetTerms is that its privacy policy pack covers all the bases, including cookies and disclaimers. Compare it to most other privacy policy generators in this list, and you’ll notice these services are sold separately.
Another interesting feature is the Data Footprint clause, which lets your customers know where you will store their personal information. The dashboard is easy to navigate, well organized, and functions seamlessly. On the whole, I love how GetTerms combines the best functionalities of most common privacy policy generators to create a versatile product that stands apart from the crowd.

Starter is only suitable for websites, whereas Compliance Pro supports ecommerce, mobile apps, and SaaS. Alternatively, you can purchase either plan for life for $149 and $199 respectively.

Termsfeed is the most popular legal document generator for online stores and websites. Founded in 2012, TermsFeed collaborates with legal experts to auto-generate privacy policies based on your responses to its standardized questionnaire. It is fast, easy to use, and versatile — and offers nearly everything you need in a privacy policy.
TermsFeed is an automated legal document generator for websites, apps, and e-commerce storefronts. I found this free privacy policy generator highly intuitive and easy to use. It required minimal effort to generate a basic privacy policy by filling out a standard questionnaire.
The best part is you can download your privacy policy in hypertext markup language (HTML), .docx, plain text, or markdown formats or copy-paste the HTML code at the backend of your website. Most other privacy policy generator tools do not offer much flexibility, especially in their free plans.
Your privacy policy is hosted free of cost on the TermsFeed server. You can integrate it into your Wix, WooCommerce, WordPress, Squarespace, or any such web hosting platform anytime you want.
Its crisp and clutter-free dashboard is easy on the eye, and you can simply locate your legal documents to update or edit them any number of times. TermsFeed monitors global data policy rules and regulations for changes. It automatically updates your legal documents to accommodate these changes and notifies you if any major changes need to be made.
- Who is TermsFeed best for?
Small business owners just starting can benefit from TermsFeed’s affordable, no-frills, and easy privacy policy generator. - Recent upgrades to TermsFeed
Termsfeed automatically updates all paid privacy policies in real time as global data protection laws change. You will also get a notification about the changes that require you to make approvals in some exceptional cases. - TermsFeed pricing
You can generate a basic policy for your website free of cost, but you won’t get any custom clauses. For those, you can pick and choose what you need–pricing is based on the clauses you need to include. The questionnaire at the beginning will help you decide which ones are crucial for your business.

What You Need to Know
Do I need a privacy policy?
If you collect consumer data, no matter how trivial, you must comply with legal mandates. Failing to do so could incur penalties.
Some of the major data protection laws to abide by include:
- The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) law, which is prevalent in Europe and countries under the European Union
- The CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act), which is relevant to the United States
- The COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act), an extension of CCPA
- The CalOPPA (California Online Privacy Protection Act)
If you sell goods or services of any kind, whether digital or physical, you must comply with these data protection laws. Most of the privacy policy generators in this list can be made GDPR- and CCPA-compliant at an additional charge.
Are privacy policy generators legitimate?
Yes, you can use a privacy policy generator to create a legal document for your website. Generators typically use a template, which you’ll fill in with your information using a questionnaire.
Are there free privacy policy generators?
There are free privacy policy generators. All of the privacy policy generators featured on this page offer a free tool. Paid generators may offer better options for compliance, customization, or website traffic than free privacy policy generators.
Are free privacy policy generators safe?
While free privacy policy generators are safe, they may not be compliant for certain regions, industries, or types of data that you’re collecting. If you’re collecting user data or processing payments, you’ll likely need to upgrade to a paid privacy policy generator to ensure compliance.
Can you copy and paste a privacy policy?
No, you cannot just copy and paste another privacy policy to use for your website or app. While lots of privacy policies may contain boilerplate information, privacy policies are protected by copyright laws. That’s why you should use a privacy policy generator to create a privacy policy that’s unique to your site.
How We Review Privacy Policy Generators
I tested each of these tools based on their legal compliance, ease of use, affordability, updates, and support. These five parameters were critical to understanding whether each of these privacy policy generators has what it takes to make it to our list.
I tested these providers for:
After testing each provider, I consulted with friends and acquaintances in the field of law to confirm if the clauses included in these policies would hold in court.
